I received my B.S. degree from Fudan University and M.S. degree from the University of Rochester. I am currently a qualified Ph.D. candidate in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) program. Before I applied to graduate school, I took research intern position in the University of Rochester through independent networking. I finished my Ph.D. program application by myself. During my Ph.D. study, I not only conducted researches under guidance of my advisor, Dmitri N. Ermolenko, Ph.D., but also founded the Chalk Talk Crew (CTC), a student-led chalk talk series. I feel confident and rewarded to help graduate school applicants with my experience and expertise in handling academic networking, application, interview, course and rotation, advisor/thesis committee selection, qualifying exam and other aspects graduate school study.

可提供服务:
I focus on graduate school application, i.e. Master and/or Ph.D. programs. What I can help you with:
l Feedbacks and comments on Personal statement
l Academic networking skills
l Interviewing skills
l Consulting on graduate school life in America
l Exploring career as a biochemist: in- & outside of academia
l Visa application and travel advise
课程简述: Who will read your personal statement? How to tell a good story?
适用用户: Graduate school applicants
服务说明:Although TOEFL, GRE and GPA scores are quantitatively informative, the personal statement is the only thing to show the applicant as a person before interview. The importance of personal statement can never be overemphasized when the admission committee is deciding what names will stay in the interviewing list. I will explain the purpose of writing a personal statement and how to write it as a story teller. Preferably, the student has already had a draft or some ideas about his/her personal statement. I will be happy to go through the writing process with the student.
课程简述:How to stand out in an on-site/skype interview?
适用用户: Graduate school applicants
服务说明:
American recruiting system is built on interview. The applicant’s performance in interview largely affects admission decisions. I received Ph.D. program offer from my current institution a few years ago. The School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) of University of Rochester asks current graduate students to help with admission every year. I took this opportunity to volunteer in admission sessions and talked to many applicants, both domestic and international. My advisor, Dmitri N. Ermolenko Ph.D., an associate professor in the SMD, serves in admission committee for many years, having interviewed a number of students. He shares his thoughts and impressions on interviewees every year within his lab. Therefore, I think I have decent amount of knowledge on what interviewers in academia are looking for. I understand that interview requires skills to improvise, which can be difficult to applicants whose native language is not English. Thus, I will help student to practice interviews, and most importantly, help him/her to avoid red flags.
课程简述: General introduction of biology/life sciences programs and career path
适用用户: Graduate school applicants and students who consider studying biology in American graduate school.
服务说明:
There have been rumors that majoring in biology equals hairlessness and joblessness. Is it true? We can figure this out together by studying real cases. The University of Rochester has a very diverse community, which provides a good number of samples showing how foreigners struggle and succeed in America.
课程简述: How to deal with cultural shock? Why am I stressed out?
适用用户: Graduate school applicants
服务说明:Adapting to a new culture is never easy! In addition, graduate school can be very very stressful! When the two combines, they can give you a hell, sometimes (if not all the times). I will share my personal experience on how to deal with both. But one must understand that each person is different, and nobody can simply copy another individual’s way. If you face a real issue sometime in the future, you can always reach me out, and we can work on that together. Feel free to bug me.
为什么要选我:
Why you are choosing me? To be frank with you, I am unable to guarantee you any offers, because I do not serve in your admission committee. But I will try my best to help you with my knowledge and experiences, and I want you to be admitted by a program that fits you well. For other reason why, please read all my handtypings above and you will have your own answers.
